About ICU
ICU was ranked 1st among private universities in THE Japan University Rankings 2019-2021. Since its founding in 1953, the university has been practicing liberal arts in Japanese-English bilingual education. At ICU, “dialogue” is the heart of learning and many classes are held in a group-work/discussion-based, instead of a lecture-based. Students can decide their major after discovering what they truly want to study among a diverse range of academic field of humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Today, students from 50 countries are studying at ICU. There’s an environment where unique students can learn beyond national borders and cultural differences.
Application information
Our goal is to admit, irrespective of nationality, students who have studied a wide range of subjects and who possess the core competencies to integrate basic knowledge and foreign language skills to actively engage in a liberal arts education.
Those who apply to ICU in English undergo a documentary screening process. Admission decisions are made holistically and are based on a number of factors, including academic transcripts, standardized test scores, application essays, and letters of recommendation.

College Life
There are approximately 900 students (30% of the student body) who live in the 10 dormitories on green and specious campus. Japanese and non-Japanese students live together and are able to share their diverse social, linguistic, cultural and religious backgrounds and ways of thinking.
ICU is only 20 minutes away from central Tokyo by train, making it easy to access a variety of cultural, artistic, academic, and sports events.
