As the only public university established by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Tokyo Metropolitan University boasts a legacy of academic excellence, innovation, and a commitment to nurturing global leaders. Although the quality research and education at TMU is high, tuition is not. Multiple types of entrance exams are valid as described below, and the International Center offers specialized support for international students. In addition, our university gives access to a bustling urban area while uniquely retaining abundant natural beauty, offering an enriching balance between city life and serene surroundings. 
Here at TMU, aspiring biologists can gain a broad scope of academic experience in our Department of Biological Sciences through a degree program offered completely in English. It is possible to earn all credits required for graduation in English alone, or through a combination of Japanese and English classes. Our faculty members are internationally recognized researchers in a variety of research fields, including botany, cell biology, developmental biology, ecology, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, neuroscience, and zoology. Most courses provided in English have small class sizes of fewer than 20 students, and are highly interactive. They often include international collaborations with partner universities all over the world. Our four-year program for a bachelor’s degree in Biology empowers the next generation of scientists, who can apply such knowledge in their career to solve health issues, manage natural resources, and protect the environment, making a major contribution to human society.
